According to Fortune Character magazine a recent survey of wealthy readers revealed where they would assign money in terms of investments, and watches continued to be the most popular vehicle.

Store openings

  • In April Harry Winston opened its second store in China in Shanghai’s Xintiandi, flying over Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick from the US TV series Gossip Girl, an odd choice, considering their consumer base in China who are unlikely to have any knowledge of the show.
  • Chinese jewellery brand Qeelin opened its 5th direct store in Nanjing in July and in June Graff opened two more stores, one each in Shanghai and Hangzhou.
  • Watch brand Panerai opened its 5th direct store in Zhengzhou in August and a new store in Xiamen for Audermars Piguet was opened in July.
  • The first Jaquet Droz boutique in China opened in Shanghai’s Xintiandi in July, while Jaeger-lecoultre opened its first concept store in Beijing the same month


New launches and events

  • Hublot introduced a special edition watch for Ferrari owners in June and a cat walk show in July to which Manchester United players were in attendance.
  • Jaquet Droz and Jaeger-lecoultre both introduced special dragon watch series for China, while De Beers launched 8 Talisman Virtues series, designed exclusively for local consumers.
